Queen's Pier in Restaurant Photo Exhibition
It seems no relationship between Queen’s Pier and “Tea Restaurant” (typical local cafe), but photography links them together.
It’s nothing about collective memories or missing the old days, talking about Queen’s Pier because the protection actions which happened last year made it as a symbol. It’s a symbol of demanding for democratic town planning. It’s a symbol of respecting our heritage and history. It’s a symbol of protecting our harbour in city. It’s a symbol of Hong Kong people requesting for democracy participation of society and protection of public space. What happened in the Queen’s Pier last year was not merely for protection of a historic building, but seeking for a better future of Hong Kong and making it a better place for next generation.
All sorts of protection actions seem diminished followed by the demolishment of Queen’s Pier. In fact the action is now penetrating into communities. Some people are fighting for environmental protection. Some people are struggling for cultural and heritage preservation. Some people are concerning the town planning problems. Some people are helping the poor communities for better living. Two protestors are still in jail at this moment. Queen’s Pier is not buried under the earth. It’s not torn apart and stored somewhere in government warehouse. It’s not an option A or B on the new town planning paper. It’s not living in the so-called collective memories. It’s actually turned into real actions of people who care and concern about Hong Kong that penetrated into every local community.
In a typical local neighborhood “Tea Restaurant” where located in a century bazaar of Central, members of Photosynthesis show their photos of Queen’s Pier. It aims to remind everybody what happened in the Queen’s Pier last year, cheering up neighborhoods and Hongkongers to care and concern our place, preserving our open market. In the meantime, we would like to show our respect to friends from Queen’s Pier.
